Why the name “Serendipity Books?”

I was watching a Katherine Hepburn movie one night with my husband and she was talking to her boss about their relationship. They both decided that it was “very serendipitous” that they had met.

I had always wondered about the real meaning of that word, so I looked up the definition and it read, “Serendipity-an unexpected, fortunate occurrence”. Instantly, I knew that would be the name for my bookstore.

First, I have always wanted to own my own bookstore, but never thought I’d actually do it; but the way in which
events started occurring, falling in place precisely so as to make my dream possible, seemed very serendipitous.

Second, as I considered the way a customer would wander through my store browsing the selections, they might just happen to run across a book that they never would have considered. The book would be an unexpected, fortunate find (serendipitous) for them.

And that is what my store is all about. I have all the new titles, the New York Times Best Sellers, Oprah’s Picks, plus any book you might hear about in the media, but I also have books that you may not have ever considered reading until you ran across them on the shelf.

Serendipity Books is browser friendly, wants you to explore, and encourages you to look beyond your usual stuff
and try something new.
